Characteristics

Small divaricately branched tree to 8 m.. Youngest shoots densely pale ferruginous hairy with rather long hairs 1 –1.5 mm. long, older parts dull purplish grey, slightly striate, glabrous.. Leaf-blades oblong-elliptic, 4–11 cm. long, 2–4.5 cm. wide, subacute to shortly acuminate at the apex, rounded to rounded-cuneate at the base, distinctly discolorous, fairly densely ferruginous hairy above but not velvety, nor obscuring the surface, densely softly velvety tomentose beneath with matted yellowish grey hairs; lateral nerves slightly impressed above in dry state; petioles 5–7 mm. long, hairy like the stems; stipules with base 0.5–1.5 mm. long and filiform part 6–7.5 mm. long, mostly obscured by long bristly hairs.. Inflorescences ± 2 cm. long, densely ferruginous hairy; peduncle thick, bracteolate, up to 7 mm. long; pedicels 2 mm. long; bracts ovate, 3 × 2 mm.. Calyx-tube ovoid, 1 mm. long; lobes linear-lanceolate, 6–8 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide.. Buds shortly apiculate, glabrous.. Corolla green, 1 cm. long.. Unripe fruits subglobose, 1.2 cm. long and wide.
