Characteristics

Evergreen much-branched tree 7–17 m. high; bark grey; branchlets glabrate, with elliptic lenticels.. Leaves opposite or subopposite, trifoliolate; petioles 1.5–5 cm. long, slightly flattened or channelled above, minutely pubescent to glabrate; leaflets elliptic-oblong, 8–18 cm. long, 2–6 cm. broad, acute or shortly acuminate at the apex, slightly curved, coriaceous, green glossy above to paler and dull beneath, glabrous or occasionally with few appressed hairs beneath; midrib prominently raised beneath and slightly furrowed above towards the base; pellucid gland dots numerous.. Inflorescence of axillary and terminal panicles, 6–15 cm. long, pubescent.. Flowers unisexual, yellow, subsessile or with pedicel up to 4 mm. long.. Sepals 4, 0.4–0.6 mm. long, united halfway, ciliate.. Petals 4(–5), oblong or ovate–oblong, 2–3.5 mm. long, 1.4–1.7 mm. broad.. Male flowers: stamens 6–9 (usually 8), 2–5 mm. long, variable in length even on the same flower; rudimentary ovary pubescent.. Female flowers: staminodes 6–9 (usually 8), 0.5–1 mm. long, variable in length on the same flower and usually 4 short and 4 long as in ♂ flower; ovary glabrous, unilocular; style very short; stigma capitate..
