Characteristics

Shrub or small evergreen tree up to 6 m. tall; young branches reddish, glabrous, older ones dark grey. Leaves petiolate; petiole 1-4 cm long, grooved above; leaflets sessile or the central one sometimes petiolulate; lamina 3-5-8(9) x 1.2-3.5 cm, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, shining above and light yellowish below, dotted with pellucid glands, acuminate or obtuse at the apex, margin entire and slightly revolute, narrowly cuneate at the base; secondary nerves slightly raised above. Inflorescence of axillary and terminal racemes as long as or shorter than the petiole of the subtending leaf; peduncles and pedicels sparsely and minutely puberulous; bracteoles 0.5 x 0.5 mm, caducous. Male flowers: pedicel 1.5-2 mm long; sepals 1.5 mm long, broadly ovate, imbricate; petals 3.5 x 1.5 mm, elliptic, imbricate; stamens somewhat flattened at the base, as long as the petals or slightly longer; anthers basifixed, 0.9 mm long, deeply 2-lobed at the base; ovary vestigial. Female flowers not seen. Fruit 1-4 cm in diam., densely verrucose, reddish-brown. Mature seeds not seen.
