Shrub or slender, heavily foliaged tree, up to 8 m high. Leaves alternate, 3-foliolate, gland-dotted; leaflets oblanceolate to elliptic, 50-150 x 20-40 mm, without hairs, on short petioles, margins entire, tending to roll under; petioles up to 10 mm long, not winged. Flowers greenish cream-coloured, small, inconspicuous, male flowers falling early; produced in small, axillary or terminal, branched heads, or panicles, 20-30 mm long. Calyx usually shortly 4-or 5-lobed, cupular. Petals 4 or 5. Male flowers: stamens as many as petals, inserted at base of disc, anthers dorsifixed, cordate, without apical gland; ovary rudimentary. Female flowers: staminodes as many as petals; disc sometimes present; ovary sessile, globose, 1-locular, with 2 pendulous ovules; style short or cylindric; stigma peltate. Flowering time all year. Fruit drupaceous, 1-seeded.
