Characteristics

Leaves alternate, 3-foliolate; petiole 1–3 cm. long, narrowly winged; leaflets sessile; lamina 1·8–4·5 × 0·8–1·5 cm., papyraceous, narrowly elliptic to elliptic, sparsely dotted with minute pellucid glands, softly velutinous on both surfaces, blunt or sometimes emarginate at the apex, margin slightly crenulate, cuneate to obtuse at the base.

Male flowers: stamens (6–7) 8, inserted at the base of a narrow disk; filaments flattened at the base, those opposite the petals a little shorter; anthers 1·5 mm. long, basifixed, ovate, 2-lobed at the base, with lateral dehiscence; vestigial ovary with styles united for their full length.
Inflorescence a terminal panicle 2–4 cm. long and 2–3 cm. broad at the base; bracteoles 0·3 mm. long, linear, pilose, caducous; pedicels 1–2 mm. long.
Deciduous shrub c. 1·5 m. tall or small tree; young branches, leaves and panicles greyish-tomentose.
Sepals 4, united into a cupuliform shortly lobed calyx 0·8–1·1 mm. long.
Petals 4, 4·5–5 × 10·7–2 mm., imbricate, narrowly elliptic.
