Characteristics

Leaflets 3, 3–13 × 1–8 cm, mostly oblong or ovate or lanceolate, acute or acuminate at the apex, subacute, rounded or truncate at the base or sometimes subhastate, sparsely to densely pilose on both surfaces; petiole 1.5–11 cm long; rhachis 0.5–1.5 cm long; stipules 5–9 × 1–1.5 mm, lanceolate, multinerved, prolonged and bilobed at the base; lobes unequal, 2–4 mm long, narrowly triangular.

Calyx pubescent or glabrescent; tube 1.5–2 mm long; lobes 1.2–2 × 1.5 mm long, ovate-lanceolate, lower as long as the laterals, upper pair united into an apiculate lip.
Flower blue, 10–14 × 12–16 mm; pedicel 2–5 mm long, expanding as the pod matures; bracteoles 1.2–2.5 mm long, ovate-lanceolate, 1-nerved.
Peduncles 5–23 cm × 0.3–1.5 mm, pubescent, especially toward the apex; rhachis 1.5–7 cm long, 4–13-noded, internodes 2–11 mm long.
Standard with two L-shaped appendages; keel with a short beak (1–2 mm long), slightly twisted towards the right.
Pod 2–4.5 cm × 2.8–4 mm, linear-cylindrical, S-curved, pubescent, with a short curved beak.
Stem covered with usually long (1.5–2 mm), spreading, bristly ferruginous hairs.
Flowers either bright blue or pink or purple-tinged, turning yellow.
Seed 3–4.5 × 2.5–3 × 1.5–2 mm; hilum excentric; aril excentric.
