Characteristics

Culms 7–45 cm high. Leaf blade 3.5–10 cm long, c. 0.4 mm wide, with midrib prominent. Inflorescences one-sided, partially exserted, 5.5–33 cm long. Spikelets 5.5–10.2 mm long, disarticulating above glumes, with 1 or 2 bisexual florets and 3–5 distal sterile florets; rachilla densely villous (but glabrous between sterile florets). Glumes: lower glume dorsally rounded, nerveless or 1-nerved; upper glume 1.9–3.4 mm long, muticous, dorsally rounded, obscurely 1 or 3-nerved with lateral nerves short. Callus blunt, 0.1–0.2 mm long. Basal lemma 4.7–7.7 mm long, awned, dorsally rounded; nerves 3, obscure, densely villous, with hairs particularly on midnerve and extending length of nerves; intercostal regions scabrous towards edges or villous overall; awn 6.4–15.3 mm long. Palea entire. Stamen 1. Hilum 2.1–2.3 mm long.
