Spikelets 1-flowered without rhachilla extension, sessile, alternate in 2 rows on a tough axis, disarticulating above the glumes; glumes unequal, the inferior 0–1-nerved, the superior deciduous, 1-nerved, longer than the inferior, equalling and embracing the floret, both dorsally broadly rounded, membranous, acute; lemma almost as long as the superior glume, dorsally broadly rounded, thinly membranous, acute or shallowly emarginate at the apex, shortly awned.
