Characteristics

Palm to 15 m tall; trunk to 25 cm diam. Leaves to 3.2 m long; leaf sheath elongate, dense whitetomentose, with black scales densely aggregated at apex and on petiole and rachis. Pinnae 46–55 each side of rachis, to 70 cm long, divided into 11–18 segments, dark green above, lighter green below. Inflorescence to 165 cm long; axes cream to light green; rachillae robust, to 6 mm thick. Perianth cream. Staminate flower to 11 mm long, to 4 mm diam.; petals rigid. Fruit to 65 mm long, to 60 mm diam.; mesocarp thick, fleshy, fibres to 3 mm wide, forked and appressed to endocarp. Seed to 32 mm long, to 26 mm diam.
