Characteristics

Corm globose-ovoid, 1.5-2 cm in diam. Neck often distinct, up to 15 cm long. Stem above ground 7-20 cm high. Leaves 3(-4), suberect-spreading or recurved, linear, attenuate, 7-22 cm long, 5-12 mm wide near the base; uppermost leaf generally shorter, 4-10(-16) cm long. Spike narrowly cylindrical, fairly dense and many-flowered, 3-12 cm long, ca. 1 cm wide. Perianth stellately spreading, ca. 1 cm in diam., greenish-yellow or cream-coloured. Tube broadly cylindrical, 1.5-2.5 mm long, 2-3 mm wide. Segments linear or linear-lanceolate, 4-5 mm long, 0.7-1 mm wide, with, or more seldom without, narrow brownish-purple margins, without nectary spots, sometimes faintly midveined, acute. Nectary a short and shallow groove in a narrowly reniform elevation above the filament base, sometimes indistinct. Filaments subulate, 2-3 mm long, pale brownish. Anthers elliptic-oblong, 0.8-1 mm long, 0.7-1 mm wide, yellow. Ovary (excl. styles) 1.5-2.5 mm long, conical-oblong, green; free styles suberect, subulate, 2-3 mm long. Capsule oblong-ovoid, 2.5-3 mm long and wide; persistent styles erecto-patent or curved, 2-3 mm long. Seeds subglobose, somewhat angular, ca. 1 mm in diam., brown, minutely muricate-colliculate.
