Characteristics

Corm ovoid, 1-1.5 cm long, ca. 1 cm wide, with black tunics. Stem with underground portion usually slender, with a several-layered neck or sometimes only a membraneous sheathing cataphyll, aerial part 4-15 cm high, slender. Leaves 3, usually curved-recurved, lanceolate, acuminate-cuspidate, 2-17 cm long, 2-8 mm wide, uppermost smaller. Spike oblong-narrowly cylindrical-oblong, fairly dense, 3-40-flowered, 1-8 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide. Perianth campanulate, 7-11 mm in diam., white or creamy white with dark purple to almost black segment margins. Tube 2-4 mm wide, at first narrowed towards the base, widening during anthesis and becoming cylindrical-oblong, 2-4 mm long. Segments suberect to erecto-patent, almost spreading in anthesis, lanceolate, 2.5-4(-5) mm long, 0.5-1 mm wide, subacute, 1-3-veined, distinctly dark-margined from the base to the apex, without nectary spot, with a slightly elevated nectary groove above the filament base. Filaments erect, 1.3-1.7 mm long, subulate, slender. Anthers oblong, 0.5-0.6 mm long, 0.3-0.4 mm wide, yellow-pale brown. Ovary (excl. styles) 1.5-3 mm long, rounded-oblong, triquetrous, green; free styles 1.5-2.5 mm long, subulate-flattened, suberect or with curved tips. Capsule oblong-ovoid, 3.5-4 mm long, 3-3.5 mm wide, with persistent curved styles 1.5-2.5 mm long. Seeds subglobose, 0.7-0.9 mm in diam., with a short hilum, medium to dark brown, almost smooth (minutely colliculate in high magnification).
