Characteristics

Corm rounded-ovoid, 1-1.5 cm long, 0.8-1.2 cm wide, with black tunics. Neck loose, several-layered, or indistinct. Stem above ground 5-25 cm high, slender or sometimes fairly stout (up to 5 mm thick). Leaves 3(-4), suberect or sometimes curved, lanceolate, 3-20 cm long, 0.2-1(-1.5) cm wide, attenuate-acuminate or sub-cuspidate, uppermost usually smaller. Spike usually lax, 3-20(-30)-flowered, 1.5-10 cm long, 1-2 cm broad. Perianth 1-1.5 cm in diam., broadly cup-shaped with erect-spreading segments, greenish white to cream-coloured or pinkish, with dark-coloured margins. Tube broadly oblong-cylindrical or somewhat widening above, 2-3.5 mm long, 3-6 mm wide, inside swollen with spongy tissue. Segments lanceolate, distant, 5-6 mm long, 0.6-1.5 mm wide, obtuse-subacute, 3-veined, lined in the distal 2/3-3/5 with blackish-purple margins, without nectary spot, with a shallow or indistinct nectary groove above the filament base. Filaments 0.5-0.8 mm long, subulate, white. Anthers oblong, 0.5-0.8 mm long, 0.6-1 mm wide, yellow. Ovary oblong or somewhat conical, 2-3 mm long excl. styles; free styles subulate, 1-1.5 mm long, with light-coloured tips. Capsule rounded-ovoid to subconical, excl. styles 3-4 mm long and wide; persistent styles conical-subulate, 1-2 mm long, suberect or somewhat spreading or curved. Seeds subglobose or somewhat angled by pressure, ca. 1 mm in diam., brown, with a minutely reticulate surface.
