Characteristics

Corm ovoid, 1.2-2.5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, with firm black tunics. Neck usually distinct, many-layered, 5-9 cm long. Stem above ground 12-30 cm high. Leaves 3, suberect to erecto-patent or sometimes spreading-re-curved, lanceolate, acuminate, 7-16 cm long, 0.7-2 cm wide near the base; uppermost leaf shorter, 2-10(-14) cm long. Spike cylindrical, 3-13 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide, dense and many (up to 45)-flowered. Perianth 1.3-1.8 cm in diam., with stellately spreading segments and exserted stamens and styles. Tube broadly cylindrical, 3-5 mm long, 1.8-3 mm wide, uniformly white-cream-coloured, faintly veined, with short and broad bilobed spurs at the base. Segments lanceolate-narrowly ovate-oblong, 4.5-7.5 mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, cream-coloured with thickish dark purple-brown margins becoming rolled back, without nectary spot, with obtuse or rounded tip. Nectary a longitudinal groove above the filament base. Filaments subulate from a broader base, 4-6 mm long. Anthers 1.2-1.5 mm long, 0.7-1 mm wide, pale brownish-greyish. Ovary oblong, 3-4 mm long excl. styles; free styles 6-7.5 mm long, subulate. Capsule and seeds unknown.
