Leaves petiolate, lamina 5–10.6 x 2–3.7 cm., lanceolate to elliptic-oblong or ovate, acute or shortly acuminate at the apex, broadly cuneate to rounded at the base, membranous to subcoriaceous, bluish-or sage-green and glabrous (rarely pubescent at the base) above, glaucous or pale green and appressed-pubescent below, with densely reticulate venation equally prominent on both sides; petiole 5–9 (11) mm. long, orange-brown or blackish, pubescent or glabrescent.

Petals cream to greenish-yellow, the outer ones 2–4.5 x 0.5 cm. narrowly linear, ± flat in section above, broadened but scarcely concave at the base, appressed-pubescent outside, puberulous within, the inner ones purple and thickened at the base, somewhat shorter and narrower, otherwise similar.
Fruit on a pedicel 10–15 mm. long; fruiting carpels 3–6, (1.7) 2.3–3.8 x 1.3–2 cm.; 3–7-seeded, cylindric or obovoid-ellipsoid, straight, rounded at the apex, glabrous, smooth or finely rugose, with or without a vertical ridge, with stipes 2–4 mm. long.
Flowers solitary or in c. 2–12-flowered cymes; primary peduncle up to 3 mm. long; pedicels 3–7 (8) mm. long, slender, appressed-pubescent; bracteole 1, oblong to elliptic.
Sepals 1–5.2 mm. long, triangular-ovate, acute to obtuse, appressed-pubescent outside, glabrous and green within.
Seeds c. 1 cm. long, ellipsoid, brown, almost horizontal, biseriate, entirely covered by an aril when fresh.
Carpels 4–6, c. 4 mm. long; ovary ovoid, appressed-pilose; style 3 times as long as the ovary, cylindric.
Branches purple-brown, shortly pubescent at first, soon glabrous; lenticels numerous.
Stamens c. 1 mm. long, linear, purplish; connective-prolongation capitate, rugulose.
