Characteristics

Small annual.. Leaves 2–3 cm. long, 1 mm. wide; sheaths smooth, glabrous, brown, gradually dilated to the base, rather abruptly tapering above; ligule absent or up to 0.5 mm. long; lamina linear, smooth, glabrous; apex acute to obtuse, incurved.. Peduncles 6–13 cm. long, smooth, glabrous, terete or slightly 2-ridged towards the apex; mature spike ellipsoid, 3–4 mm. long, 1.5–2 mm. in diameter, dark brown; outer sterile bracts very broadly ovate, 1.5 mm. long, 1.3 mm. wide, concave; inner sterile bracts suborbicular, 2 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, concave; fertile bracts suborbicular, ± 2.5 mm. long, 2.5 mm. wide, concave, brown.. Lateral sepals arcuate, 2.5 mm. long, 0.5 mm. wide, acute, keel entire.. Filament ± 1 mm. long; anthers ± 1 mm. long, sagittate at the base.. Ovary ± 1.2 mm. long; style 1.5 mm. long, 3-branched..
