Characteristics

Plant about 5-6 in. high, with 1 simple erect stem to a tuber, pubescent all round; leaves numerous, opposite, 3-4.5 in. long, 1/2-2/3 lin. broad, linear, acute, erect or ascending, revolute along the margins, glabrous above, more or less pubescent on the midrib beneath; umbels 3-4 to a stem, subaxillary and terminal, pedunculate, hemispherical, about 20-flowered, involucrate with several linear-subulate spreading or reflexed bracts about 2 lin. long; peduncles 6-7 lin. long, pubescent; pedicels 3-5 lin. long, pubescent; sepals 1.5 lin. long, 0.5 lin. broad, lanceolate, acute, pubescent, reflexed; corolla entirely reflexed, pubescent outside, glabrous within; lobes 2 lin. long, rather more than 1 lin. broad, oblong-lanceolate, acute; corona-lobes arising 2/3 lin. above the base of the staminal column and reaching to about 3/4 of its length, 0.75 lin. long, oblong-ovoid, acute, thick and fleshy, erect, laterally attached at the base to the staminal column by a short distinct stalk, and standing free from the anthers; staminal column 1 2/3 lin. long; filament part tapering upwards, constricted under the anthers; anthers oblong with nearly parallel sides, slightly broadest at the base, erect, their appendages very broadly ovate, acute, inflexed over the apex of the style, and their wings broadest at the base, gradually narrowed upwards; style slightly excavated at the pentagonal, truncate apex; follicles and seeds not seen.

Perennial, geophytic herb, 152-230 mm high; stems solitary, erect. Leaves erect, linear, 41-90 x 1.0-2.5 mm, base cuneate, apex acuminate, margins revolute; midrib dominant below. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, hemispherical to subglobose, 12-21-flowered. Corolla yellow-to creamy green, strongly reflexed, hugging pedicel. Lobes oblong-lanceolate to ovate, ± 4 x 2 mm. Staminal column ± 3.5 mm high, barrel-shaped, stipitate. Corona white, inserted well above base; lobes fleshy, ovate, small, ± 2 mm high, ± 1 mm wide at base, shortly-stalked, separating lobe from staminal column; alternating with anther wings, apex attenuate. Anther wings broadest at base, with notch level to ± middle of corona lobes. Anther: appendages reaching to base of style-stigma-head.
