Annual herb, primary stem 30-150 mm long, erect, simple or branched from the base and above, branches decumbent or ascending, densely pubescent with delicate patent hairs up to c. 1 mm long, either minutely gland-tipped or acute, moderately leafy. Leaves c. 17-30 x 6-12 mm, elliptic or ovate-elliptic, subacute, tapering into a broad flat petiolar part, this accounting for up to half the total length, margins serrate, both surfaces villous with hairs up to 2.5-3 mm long, either gland-tipped or acute. Flowers up to c. 20 crowded in a short spike, open in sunshine. Bracts adnate to calyx for 4-6 mm, lowermost c. 11-22 x 3.5-7 mm, oblong, acute, 1-3 pairs of narrow sharp teeth near apex, softly villous with acute hairs up to 2-4 mm long, usually mixed with glandular hairs up to 0.8-1.5 mm long. Calyx 8.5-12 mm long, lips 2.5-3 mm long, villous mainly on the ribs, hairs gland-tipped or acute, up to 0.8-1.25 mm long. Corolla tube 23-27 mm long (throat 1.4-2 mm in diam.), glabrous limb 11-15 mm in diam., regular, lobes 5-7 x 2.5-5 mm, deeply bifid, Y-shaped, margins revolute, the segments very acute to the eye, saffron-yellow ageing brown, band of minute sessile globular glands around mouth. Stamens 4, anticous pair exserted, anthers 1.25-1.6 mm long, posticous pair included, anthers 2.2-3.2 mm long. Stigma 1.5-7 mm long, shortly exserted. Style 14-21 mm long. Ovary 3.5-4 x 0.8-1 mm, peglike nectariferous gland 0.5 mm long. Capsules c. 8 x 4 mm. Seeds c. 2 x 1.5 mm, more or less 3-winged, deeply 'dimpled', pallid.
