Leaves opposite, or alternate above, simple, dentate or entire.
Annual or perennial herbs, subviscid, turning black on drying.
Calyx 5-toothed, bilabiate, oblong to tubular-ovoid.
Capsule ovoid-oblong, septicidally bivalved.
Seeds numerous.
