Characteristics

Annual herb, stems c. 30-150 mm long, primary one simple, erect, soon branching from the base and higher, branches decumbent or ascending, simple to branched, very minutely glandular, coarse patent acute hairs up to 1-1.5 mm long as well, moderately leafy. Leaf blade c. 6-20 x 2.5-10 mm, elliptic, ± acute, tapering into a broad flat petiolar part c. 3-15 mm long (about equalling to roughly one third as long as blade), margins subentire to distinctly toothed, both surfaces thinly villous, hairs acute, up to 1-2 mm long, minutely glandular as well. Flowers open in sunshine, up to c. 30 in dense terminal spikes, elongating as they pass into fruit, capsules then laxly arranged. Bracts adnate to calyx for 3-5 mm, lowermost c. 12-19 x 2.5-6 mm, 3-5 times as long as broad, oblong-lanceolate, 1-4 pairs of teeth in upper part, thinly villous with acute hairs up to 1.5-2.5 mm long, glandular hairs as well up to 0.3-0.5 mm long. Calyx 5.5-8 mm long, lips 1.8-2.5 mm long, glandular hairs up to 0.3-0.5 mm long, coarse acute hairs as well mainly on ribs and tips, up to 1-1.5 mm long. Corolla tube 18-28 mm long (throat 1.3-1.8 mm in diam.), glandular, hairs on lower part especially up to 0.4-0.5 mm long, limb c. 9-10 mm in diam., regular, mouth encircled by acute hairs, lobes 3-4 x 3-3.5 mm, spathulate, rounded to retuse or shallowly bifid, white to pale mauve or pinkish-mauve above with a yellow to orange/red very short-rayed 'star' around mouth, pale to deep coppery-orange below. Stamens 4, anticous pair exserted, anthers 0.7-1 mm long, posticous pair included, anthers 1.5-2.2 mm long. Stigma 1-2.5 mm long, shortly exserted. Style c. 17-20.5 mm long. Ovary 2-3 x 0.8 mm. Capsules 5-6 x 2.5 mm. Seeds not seen.
