Characteristics

Annual herb, primary stem c. 10-240 mm long, simple to laxly branched, eventually branching from the base, the branches simple to laxly branched, ascending or decumbent, pubescent with ± retrorse to patent acute hairs up to 0.2-0.8 mm long, minutely glandular-puberulous as well, laxly leafy. Leaf blade c. 4.5-20 x 2.5-13 mm, narrowly to broadly elliptic, occasionally lowermost ovate-elliptic, tapering into a broad flat petiolar part c. 2.5-15 mm long (nearly equalling to about half as long as blade), subacute, margins entire, subentire, or with a few pairs of very small teeth, both surfaces thinly pubescent with acute hairs up to 1-1.5 mm long, minutely glandular as well. Flowers open in sunshine, up to c. 20 in dense spikes elongating in fruit, the lowermost few capsules often distant. Bracts adnate to calyx for 3-5 mm, lowermost 7.5-21 x 1.8-3(-7) mm, oblong-lanceolate, entire to shortly and rather obscurely toothed, pubescent on both surfaces, glandular-puberulous as well, acute hairs on margins up to 0.6-2.5 mm long, on backs c. 0.25-0.8 mm long. Calyx 6-9 mm long, lips 1.3-2 mm long, pubescent with acute hairs up to 0.5-2 mm long, finely puberulous as well, some hairs glandular. Corolla tube 17-26 mm long (throat 1.3-1.7 mm in diam.), glandular-puberulous (hairs up to 0.1-0.4 mm long), limb 7.5-10 mm in diam., regular, mouth encircled by long acute hairs, lobes 3-6 x 2-4 mm, spathulate, bifid to retuse or subentire, white above (or sometimes orange), yellowish to coppery-orange below, yellow/orange patch around mouth with very short rays scarcely reaching base of lobes. Stamens 4, anticous pair exserted, anthers 0.6-1 mm long, posticous pair included 1.4-2 mm long. Stigma 1.4-5 mm long, shortly exserted. Style 11-20 mm long. Ovary 3-4 x 0.8-1 mm long. Capsule c. 5-8 x 2.5-3 mm. Seeds c. 0.5-0.6 x 0.4 mm, obscurely angled, colliculate, pallid.
