Characteristics

Shrubby, loosely branched, stems straggling, sometimes prostrate or decumbent, up to 600 mm long, clad in coarse ± spreading hairs, some gland-tipped, leafy. Leaves mostly 10-30 x 4-25 mm, elliptic, ovate or cuneate in outline, margins coarsely toothed, apex acute, base cuneate, narrowed into the petiole, petioles mostly 4-10 mm long, both blade and petiole coarsely pubescent with glandular and eglandular hairs. Bracts adnate to calyx for 1-2 mm, leaf-like. Flowers few to many in lax spikes, nearly always opposite, opening at dusk or in dull light and then scented. Calyx 12-17 mm long, lips 4-7 mm long, coarsely pubescent. Corolla tube 35-52 mm long, puberulous, hairs either glandular, c. 0.2-0.4 mm long, or mixed with eglandular hairs up to 0.5 mm long, limb held horizontally, regular; mouth with circlet of long unicellular hairs; lobes deeply notched, 7.5-12 mm long, pink to crimson and glandular-puberulous outside, white and glandular-puberulous inside. Stamens 4, 2 anticous anthers 1-2.2 mm long, shortly exserted, 2 posticous ones 4-4.5 mm long, included. Capsule 12-15 x 5-6 mm. Seeds not seen. Flowers can be found in any month.
