Annual herb, often flowering in the seedling stage, 30-300 mm tall, stem initially simple, erect, soon branching from the base and above, branches erect, ascending or decumbent, villous, hairs up to 1-1.5 mm long, acute, patent, underlain by minute glandular hairs as well, leafy throughout. Leaves: lowermost 14-50 x 2-9 mm, slightly smaller upwards and passing imperceptibly into bracts, oblanceolate to linear, apex obtuse, or sometimes subacute, base narrowed into a petiolar part up to the total leaf length but shorter upwards, margins with 2-4 pairs of teeth in upper half, these rarely obscure, both surfaces densely pubescent, longest hairs on the petiolar part, up to 1 mm long. Calyx 6.5-9 mm long, anticous lip 1.5-3 mm long, posticous lip 1.6-4 mm long, pubescent all over, lobes tipped with longer hairs to c. 1 mm, these sometimes also on the keels. Corolla tube 14-23 mm long (throat 1.25-1.5 mm in diam.), minutely glandular-puberulous, occasional acute hairs as well, limb c. 10-14 mm in diam., regular, held horizontally, lobes eventually reflexed, mouth encircled by stiff erect acute hairs, lobes, 4-6 mm long, bifid, broadly Y-shaped, white to mauve above, marked with a yellow to red star around mouth, glabrous. Stamens 2 (posticous pair), included, tips of the anthers sometimes just visible in mouth, anthers 1.25-2 mm long. Stigma 1.5-3 mm long, exserted. Style 11-15 mm. Ovary 23-4 x 0.8-1.5 mm. Capsule 7-9 x 2.5 mm. Seeds c. 0.5-0.7 x 0.4-0.6 mm, pale mauve-grey, irregularly wrinkled, obscurely 3-angled, the angles marked by very narrow pallid wings, sometimes wanting.
