Characteristics

Annual herb, stem c. 18-35 mm tall, either simple or producing a pair of short (c. 7 mm long) simple branches at the apex, pubescent with acute, retrorse appressed hairs up to c. 0.8 mm long, leafless except at base and apex. Leaves: basal pair cotyledonary, blade c. 2-3 x 2-3 mm, ovate, subacute, entire, tapering into a broad flat petiolar part c. 1.5-3 mm long, apical pair (or perhaps sometimes 2 pairs) subtending inflorescence, blade c. 4-5 x 3 mm, elliptic or elliptic-ovate, subacute, entire, tapering to a broad flat petiolar part c. 2-4 mm long, all leaves shortly pubescent with acute hairs, longer hairs (to c. 1 mm) on margins of petiolar part. Flowers up to c. 10 crowded in tight head, open in sunshine. Bracts adnate to calyx for c. 1.4 mm, lowermost c. 7-8.5 x 1.8-2.4 mm, spathulate, expanded apical half very shortly pubescent with acute hairs, green to eye, lower half densely white woolly. Calyx c. 4.5-4.8 mm long, lips 1.8-2 mm long, densely white woolly in upper half. Corolla tube c. 11-12 mm long (throat 1.2-1.4 mm in diam.), glabrous or with a few minute scattered glands, limb c. 6-7.5 mm in diam., regular, mouth encircled by long acute hairs, lobes c. 2.5-3 x 2.5 mm, elliptic, entire, apex rounded, orange-yellow with a deeper orange median longitudinal bar on each lobe. Stamens 4, anticous pair exserted, anthers 0.7-0.8 mm long, tips of posticous pair just visible in mouth, anthers 0.8-1 mm long. Stigma c. 2.5 mm long, exserted. Style c. 7.5 mm. Ovary c. 2 x 0.6 mm. Capsules c. 4.3 x 2.4 mm. Seeds c. 0.6 x 0.4 mm, obscurely angled, colliculate, pallid.
