Characteristics

Annual herb, primary stems c. 20-155 mm tall, solitary or up to 7 stems from base, usually simple, sometimes with 1-3 branches, often pubescent with ± retrorse acute hairs up to 0.5-1 mm long, these sometimes almost wanting, minute glands also often present particularly on inflorescence axis and at apex of stem, often leafless between radical leaves and inflorescence, occasionally up to c. 5 leaves present. Leaves: radical leaves in 1 or 2 pairs, blade c. 4.5-22 x 4-13 mm, ovate to elliptic tapering into a broad flat petiolar part 4.5-18 mm long (very roughly equalling blade), cauline leaves often wanting, when present c. 3.5-28 x 1-5 mm, linear to elliptic slightly tapering to the base, margins of all leaves usually entire or very obscurely denticulate, rarely distinctly toothed, thinly pubescent mainly on margins and midline, hairs acute, up to c. 1 mm long. Flowers 1-c. 30, initially crowded, forming a lax spike in fruit, open in sunshine. Bracts adnate to calyx for 3.5-5.5 mm, lowermost 11-25 x 1-4 mm, linear to narrowly elliptic, entire to very obscurely toothed, pubescent all over with acute hairs up to 0.7-1.5 mm long, hairs sometimes sparse and confined to margins and dorsal midline. Calyx 4-7 mm long, lips 3.5-5.5 mm, hairy all over though hairs sometimes sparse, acute, up to 0.5-1.3 mm long. Corolla tube 6-15 mm long (throat 0.8-1.8 mm in diam.), glabrous or very minutely and sparsely glandular, limb 3-11 mm in diam., almost regular, mouth bearded with long clavate hairs extending to base of lobes, lobes 1-4.5 x 0.6-3.1 mm, oblong, white to creamy yellow above, yellow in throat with a median orange bar extending c. 1/3 of way up lobe, maroon below. Stamens 4, anticous pair exserted, anthers 0.25-0.9 mm long, posticous pair included, 0.5-1.2 mm long. Stigma 1.5-3 mm long, shortly exserted. Style 2-11 mm long. Ovary 2.5-3.5 x 0.8-1 mm. Capsules c. 6-7 x 2.4-3 mm. Seeds c. 0.4-0.5 x 0.3-0.5 mm, obscurely angled, colliculate, pallid.
