Dwarf shrub, up to 0.45 m high; twiggy, in loose clumps. Stems much branched; clad in long coarse spreading white hairs, gland-tipped or not (sometimes absent), mixed with short spreading gland-tipped hairs. Leaves with blade ovate or variously elliptic, 15-60 x 4-35 mm, apex obtuse to subacute, base cuneate, margins subentire, sometimes coarsely lobed or toothed, covered in long white hairs. Flowers: 1-several, crowded into spikes; corolla with tube up to 58 mm long, limb regular, mouth with ring of long hairs or partly so, lobes deeply notched, glabrous above, outer surface red to pink, inner surface sometimes with an orange or red band near base; Oct.-Feb., opening at dusk or dull light.
