Characteristics

Low stout undershrubs. Stems thick, cylindrical, wholly underground to nearly 1 m. tall. Leaves pinnate, the pinnae thickly coriaceous, many-nerved, articulated to the rachis. Both stami-nate and ovulate strobili cone-like, the sporophylls peltate, woody, truncate-pyramidal, hexagonal or subquadrate.
