Characteristics

Shrubs or trees, 2-3 m tall. Branchlets grayish green, glabrous, densely covered with setiform prickles and strongly compressed pseudostipular decurrent prickles forming a wing which joins them between nodes. Leaves 7-13-foliolate; rachis marginate, glabrous; leaflet blades subsessile, opposite or subopposite, lanceolate to ovate-oblong, 2-4 × 0.8-1.5 cm, oil glands inconspicuous, base slightly oblique and subrounded to broadly cuneate, margin apically crenulate, apex acuminate with a mucronate, obtuse, or emarginate tip. Inflorescences terminal; rachis base with prickles. Fruit pedicel 5-8 mm; developed follicles 1-3 with carpels in female flowers at least 3, ca. 5 mm, pubescent. Seeds 3-4 mm.
