Perennial very variable herb.. Stems erect or decumbent, up to 4.5 dm. long.. Leaves 2-foliolate; leaflets of upper leaves ovate-lanceolate, up to 25 × 10 mm., apiculate, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, conspicuously and evenly glandular-punctate beneath; those of lower leaves smaller, ovate or suborbicular.. Stipules narrowly lanceolate, up to 15 mm. long.. Bracts ovate, acute, longer than the internodes, beset with punctate glands, glabrous or shortly pubescent.. Flowers as long as or slightly shorter than the bracts.. Calyx ± 3.5 mm. long.. Petals yellow, sometimes with red veins; standard up to 8 mm. long, but often less.. Legume up to 16 mm. long and 6-seeded, but more usually 4-seeded; segments 3 × 2.5 mm.; bristles stiff, 1.5 mm. long, glochidiate and retrorsely hispid.
