Characteristics

Culms 5–45 cm high; mid-culm internodes glabrous. Leaves scattered along culms; ligule 2.5–6.2 mm long; blade folded, inrolled or involute, 1.5–10 cm long, 0.2–0.6 mm wide, adaxially puberulous. Panicles open, 2–11.5 cm long, pallid to silvery; peduncle glabrous; primary branches spreading. Spikelets 2–2.6 mm long; pedicel 1–7 mm long. Glumes exceeding florets, 1-veined; lower glume 2–2.5 mm long; upper glume 2–2.3 mm long, acute to obtuse, hyaline. Lowest fertile lemma often unawned. Basal lemma (1–) 1.2–1.4 mm long, acute, entire, usually muticous, papillose–scaberulous with minute hairs only near apex. Palea narrowly ovate; intercostal regions papillose.
