Scrambling to scandent shrub to 6 m high. Leaves 4-whorled; petiole 3–5 mm long; lamina elliptic to lanceolate-elliptic, to 17 cm long, to 5 cm wide, cuneate, short-to long-acuminate, glabrous; secondary veins 10–16 each side of midrib, tertiary venation reticulate and faintly visible. Inflorescence to 60 mm long; peduncle 2–20 mm long. Flowers 80–110 mm long, 40–130 mm diam.; pedicels 5–7 mm long. Sepals lanceolate-ovate, 8–15 mm long, 2.6–3.2 mm wide. Corolla yellow; tube obconical, 35–42 mm long, 2–3 mm diam. at base, 32–40 mm diam. at top; lobes obovate, 30–50 mm long, 22–47 mm wide.
Trees or shrubs or climbers. Leaves opposite or in whorls. Flowers: corolla tube yellow, infundibuliform, > 3.5 cm long, lower, narrow corolla tube about equal in length to upper, wider corolla tube; anthers without appendages; sepals without colleters inside.
Leaves whorled, glossy; flowers golden, to 8 cm across. Allamanda have very spiny subglobose fruits.
