Characteristics

Erect, rigid shrub to 3 m high. Leaves opposite or 3-whorled; lamina lanceolate-elliptic, elliptic, elliptic-obovate or obovate, to 52 mm long, to 21 mm wide, cuneate, not revolute, apiculate, coriaceous, discolorous; secondary venation obscure. Inflorescence reduced and congested, to 1 mm long; floral bracts ovate. Flowers 7–11 mm long, 4–5 mm diam.; pedicels 1–3 mm long. Sepals lanceolate-ovate, 0.6–1.2 mm long. Corolla cream; tube 5–8.5 mm long, 1–2 mm diam.; lobes lanceolate-ovate, 2–4 mm long, 1.4–2.6 mm wide. Stamens inserted 2–3 mm from top of tube. Fruit of 1–3 articles; articles ellipsoidal, 5–7 mm long, 4–5 mm diam., red when ripe.
