Characteristics

Erect, rigid shrub to 5 m high. Leaves 3-or 4-whorled; lamina elliptic to elliptic-obovate, to 50 mm long, to 25 mm wide, cuneate, strongly revolute, acuminate, pungent-pointed, coriaceous, discolorous; secondary venation obscure. Inflorescence reduced and congested, to 2 mm long; floral bracts triangular. Flowers 6–10 mm long, 5–10 mm diam.; pedicels c. 1 mm long. Sepals lanceolate, 2.2–3 mm long. Corolla white; tube 5–8 mm long, 1.3–2.2 mm diam.; lobes lanceolate, 3.5–5.5 mm long, 0.8–2.5 mm wide. Stamens inserted 2–2.5 mm below top of tube. Fruits with 1 or rarely 2 articles; articles ellipsoidal, 7–8 mm long, 4–6 mm diam., orange when ripe.
