Characteristics

Erect, rigid shrub to 2 m high. Leaves opposite or 3-whorled; lamina linear, to 15 mm long, to 1.7 mm wide, cuneate, strongly revolute, acute, pungent-pointed, coriaceous, discolorous; secondary venation obscure. Inflorescence much-reduced and congested, to 1 mm long; floral bracts obovate. Flowers 9–10 mm long, 4–5 mm diam., ±sessile. Sepals ovate, 0.5–0.6 mm long. Corolla white; tube 6–6.5 mm long, c. 2 mm diam.; lobes broadly ovate, c. 1.5 mm long, 1.5 mm wide. Stamens inserted 2–2.5 mm below top of tube. Fruit of 1 or 2 articles; articles ellipsoidal, c. 7 mm long, 4.5 mm diam., red when ripe.
