Characteristics

Tuber ± globose to subcylindric, growing vertically, 1–5 cm. in diameter, with thick fleshy roots 3–4 mm. in diameter.. Petiole 25–120 cm. long, up to 1 cm. in diameter or more, green to reddish green with grey hue, greenish spotted, armed with greenish cream prickles 1–5 mm. long; ultimate lobes of leaf-blade 9–16 cm. long, 2–10 cm. broad, dark glossy green.. Peduncle ± 30–90 cm. long, similar in colour to petiole, armed with prickles.. Spathe broadly-ovate to subcircular, 5–13 cm. long, 2–8 cm. in diameter, apex rounded to acute with cuspidate tip, light green, inner surface purplish red towards base.. Spadix cylindric, 3–8 cm. long, 0.8–2 cm. in diameter, usually much shorter than spathe, staminate part 1.5–3 cm. long, apex rounded, pistil late part at least half total spadix length, 1.5–5 cm. long.. Stamens cream, reddish brown at apex, 3.5 mm. long, 2.2–2.5 mm. broad.. Pistil ± 5 mm. long, 3.5–6 mm. in diameter, broadly subcylindric, glaucous purple; stigma sessile, circular, whitish, hardly prominent, 1.5–2.5 mm. in diameter..
