Loosely tufted annuals. Culms 10–25 cm high, unbranched; internodes smooth, glabrous; nodes glabrous. Leaves: ligule to 0.2 mm long; blade conduplicate, to 6 cm long, to 1 mm wide. Inflorescences 3.9–8 cm long, 1.5–4 cm wide, ±open; branches not appressed, 1–4 cm long, naked at base. Glumes subequal or normal, acute, entire, scabrous on keel, glabrous; lower glume persistent, 1.5–2 mm long, aristulate, 1 (sub 3)-nerved; upper glume 2.5–3 mm long, awned, 1-nerved. Lemma 1.5–1.8 mm long, subequal to lower glume, convolute, scabrous, without an articulation or pseudoarticulation; column absent; awns slightly but visibly unequal; median awn 4.5–6 mm long, gently curved; lateral awns 3–4 mm long, terete. Caryopsis terete, 1 mm long, less than twice embryo length.
