Leaves: ligule to 0.5 mm long; blade flat or conduplicate, to 8 cm long, to 0.5 mm wide. Inflorescences 12–21 cm long, 1–3 cm wide, ±open; branches loosely appressed, 4–6 cm long, naked at base. Glumes normal, acute, 1-nerved, glabrous; lower glume 4.5–7 mm long, entire, aristulate or awned; upper glume 7–10 mm long, notched or entire, aristulate. Lemma 8–11 mm long, slightly longer than both glumes, convolute, scabrous only on margin, without an articulation or pseudoarticulation; column absent; awns slightly but visibly unequal, straight; median awn 10–20 mm long; lateral awns 9–16 mm long. Caryopsis terete, 6–8 mm long, ±twice embryo length.
