Compactly tufted coarse perennials. Culms 60–120 cm high, slender to robust, branched (fastigiate at most nodes), terete or compressed; internodes smooth, glabrous. Leaves: ligule 0.5–1 mm long; blade conduplicate or rarely flat, to 16 cm long, to 2.5 mm wide. Inflorescences 10–30 cm long, 1–2 cm wide, ±open; branches loosely appressed, to 5 cm long, bearing spikelets from base. Glumes normal, acute, notched or entire, distinctly aristulate, 1-nerved, glabrous; lower glume 6–10 mm long; upper glume 7–12 mm long. Lemma 7–12 mm long, subequal to upper glume, convolute, scabrous only on margin (apically) or smooth, without an articulation or pseudoarticulation; column absent; awns subequal, 13–25 mm long, straight. Caryopsis terete, 6–8.5 mm long, ±twice embryo length.
Grows in Brigalow (Acacia harpophylla), Eucalyptus and Casuarina communities on sandy and alluvial soils, loams andclays.
