Aristida sieberiana Trin.

Loosely tufted perennial; culms 30–100 cm. high, often robust and up to 4 mm. in diameter.. Leaf-blades involute, 5–30 cm. long and up to 2 mm. wide when flattened, glaucous.. Panicle linear to lanceolate, loosely contracted, 8–25 cm. long.. Spikelets straw-coloured or suffused with purple, the glumes unequal with or without a few long hairs; lower glume lanceolate, 8–15 mm. long, acuminate to an awn (1–)2–5 mm. long; upper glume linear, 15–20 mm. long, acuminate to an awn (1–)3–9 mm. long; lemma terete, (7–)9–12 mm. long (including callus), smooth, articulated at the apex; callus obliquely pungent, 2 mm. long, pubescent, bearded towards the top; column of awns 10–30 mm. long; central limb 3.5–8 cm. long, the laterals a little shorter.

On coastal sands, and on dry sandy soils inland.
