Panicle ovate, 10–30 cm. long, effuse or slightly contracted.. Spikelets yellowish or brownish; glumes unequal, acuminate, the lower lanceolate and 8–12 mm. long, the upper linear and 13–18 mm. long; lemma terete, 6–8 mm. long, scabrid above, passing directly into a twisted column 7–10 mm. long without articulation; callus 1.5 mm. long, linear, pungent; awns subequal, 25–40 mm. long.
