Characteristics

Shrubs 0.5–2(–3) m. high, many-stemmed, much-branched and dense, or with long straggling branches.. Bark slightly fissured; branches white or pale grey, fibrous, peeling in thin strips.. Young growth densely covered with antrorse, thick-based, acicular hairs and shortly stipitate glands, glabrescent.. Leaves seemingly fascicled, but on very short shoots which usually elongate after flowering, obovate or oblanceolate, rarely elliptic and subacute, 5–12(–25) × 1.5–5(–7.5) mm., cuneate, fleshy, hairy.. Pedicels 5–6.5 mm. long.. Bracts obsolete or up to 2 mm. long. Bracteoles 7–9 × 6.5–8 mm., broadly oblong to subcircular, light green, edged or flushed purple, joined for 2–5 mm.. Fruiting calyx up to 12 × 9 mm., reticulately veined.. Corolla white or pink, 1.4–1.7 cm. long.. Anthers 1.5–2 mm. long.. Style arched along upper side of tube, the stigma pendulous in the middle of the mouth of the corolla.. Fruit obcordate to obcordate-truncate, usually tipped by the often oblique base of the style, narrowly winged, with an oblique, raised line on each half, breaking into two.. Fig. 1.
