Characteristics

Brittle shrubs. Flowers axillary, appearing fascicled, inserted on short superposed axillary shoots which elongate after flowering. Bracts 2, in upper half of pedicel, opposite or alternate. Bracteoles glabrous, broad, flat, deeply cordate at the base, joined in the lower half. Calyx absent. Ovary bilocular, each locule with 1 near basal ovule on a sigmoid funicle. Fruit breaking up into 2 mericarps.
