Spikelets biseriate, dorsally compressed, with 1 bisexual floret, disarticulating above the glumes; rachilla prolonged beyond the bisexual floret with 1 sterile floret. Glumes 2, similar, ±equal, divergent, exceeding both florets, narrow, awnless, membranous, carinate; lower glume 1-nerved; upper glume deciduous, 3-nerved. Callus bearded. Bisexual lemma with 1 dorsal awn, with 3 hairy keels, 3-nerved. Grain not grooved, dorsally compressed; hilum short; pericarp free. Incomplete floret with a cuneate lemma.
