Spikelets slightly laterally compressed, disarticulating above the glumes but not between the florets; glumes persistent, subequal, 1-nerved, acuminate; lemmas exserted from the glumes, membranous, lightly keeled, hairy on the lateral nerves, awned from the back, the callus densely bearded.
