Characteristics

Rhizome short-creeping. Fronds similar or dimorphic, pendulous, 7-50 (-114) cm long, 3-15 (-27) cm wide. Stipe 3-15 (-47) cm long, stramineous to brown, purplish at base; scales narrowly lanceolate to ovate, acuminate, entire to finely dentate, brown to red-brown. Lamina deltoid to ovate, pinnate, with 5-14 pairs of pinnae; rachis and costae stramineous; scales acuminate to subulate, often finely dentate, brown to red-brown, sometimes with lanuginose hairs; sterile pinnae oblong-lanceolate to ovate, 1.5-14 cm long, 8-29 mm wide, shortly stalked at base of lamina, partly adnate at apex; margins serrate; basal pinnae similar or slightly shorter; fertile pinnae irregular in width. Spores 66 × 51 µm, variable in size; perine alate to costulate or rugulose; exine smooth, granulose or verrucose with variable overlying layer.
