Characteristics

Plants erect, to 400 mm, slender to fairly robust; leaves cauline, densely imbricate, rarely lax, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, acute to acuminate, glabrous, to 60 x 20 mm. Inflorescences dense spikes, to 150 mm long; bracts to 35 x 10 mm. Flowers numerous, c. 20 x 10 mm, sepals and petals mauve, lip mauve with darker spots on upper surface. Sepals subequal, oblique, shallowly concave, apex acute, to 10 x 3 mm. Petals free, shielding gynostemium, oblong or elliptic, apex obtuse, to 10 x 4 mm. Lip spathulate, to 12 mm long; blade orbicular, apex truncate and/or shortly trilobed, rarely bilobed, to 8 x 8 mm; limb margins crenulate, inrolled, continuous with spur; spur broadly conical, 5.5-8 mm long, down-curved. Rostellum c. 1 mm tall.
