Characteristics

Leaves 10–35(45) x 0.5–2.5(3.5) mm., opposite or subopposite, spreading, linear to narrowly linear-lanceolate, acute, short white hispid-scabrid on midrib and within margins beneath, only within margins above, 1-nerved.

Corolla blue to purple; tube 4.5 mm. long, glabrous without, throat pubescent; limb 1.5–2.5 mm. in diam.; lobes 0.8–2 x 0.25–0.5 mm., oblong, entire or bifid.
Annual herbs, 20–48 cm. tall, erect; stems slender, simple or occasionally branched, glabrous to subglabrous with occasional short white patent hairs.
Bracts 3.25–4 x 2–2.5(3.5) mm., broadly ovate, acuminate, concave, glabrous except for median nerve which is shortly white-hispid, hispid-ciliate.
Calyx 2.25–3 mm. long, 4-lobed with pronounced sinus 1.5 mm. deep; lobes 1–1.5 mm. long, ciliate, narrowly lanceolate.
Spikes 5–30(55) mm. long, up to 8 mm. wide, cylindrical, compact, becoming lax especially towards base when fruiting.
Capsule 2–3 x 1.8–2 mm., broadly ovoid to subglobose, beak 0.3–0.6 mm. long.
Bracteoles 1.5–2.5 x 0.5 mm., lanceolate, hispid-ciliate.
