Characteristics

Leaves: cauline 7–28 x 0.3–3(4) mm., linear-oblong to linear or lanceolate to elliptic, obtuse, 1-nerved, hispid-scabrid especially beneath; basal leaves, where present, 5–20 x 3–20 mm., broadly ovate or obovate, entire, hispid-scabrid above mixed with small white glands, hispid beneath only on major nerves, 1-nerved with occasional secondary nerves.

Corolla blue or white; tube 5.5–6 mm. long, glabrous, subcylindrical below, c. 0.3 mm. in diam., widening to c. 0.8 mm. at throat, slightly arcuate; limb c. 2 mm. in diam.; lobes 0.8 x 0.5–0.6 mm.
Annual herb, 15–70 cm. tall, erect; stems simple or rarely branched, terete, sparsely hispid-pilose with patent white hairs, becoming scabrid above, drying pale brown to greenish-fawn, not black.
Calyx 4.5–7 mm. long, 5-lobed, 10-nerved, nerves prominent or not, where prominent sparsely hispid-scabrid; lobes 1.5–2 mm. long, narrowly lanceolate, shortly hispid on margin.
Bracts 3–4 x 1–1.5 mm., ovate-lanceolate, 1–3-nerved, hispid-scabrid especially on nerves, to subglabrous, shortly hispid-ciliate, somewhat keeled towards base.
Inflorescence terminally spicate with spikes laxly flowered, 6–13(18) cm. long in fruit, internodes up to 2.5(4) cm. long.
Bracteoles 2.5–4 x 0.4–0.6 mm., linear-lanceolate, 1-nerved, hispid-ciliate, keeled towards base.
Capsule 4.5–5 x 1.8–2 mm., cylindric-ovoid, apex subtruncate, shortly rostrate.
