Characteristics

Corolla blue, violet or mauve; tube (6.5)8–11 mm. long, cylindric, straight to slighdy curved, appressed antrorse-pilose above, retrorse-pilose below to glabrous or subglabrous within calyx, throat densely pilose; limb 8.5–12 mm. in diam.; lobes 4–6 x 2–3.75 mm., unequal, obovate to obovate-oblong.

Leaves 15–45 x 1–3 mm., linear to narrowly linear-lanceolate, opposite, nearly opposite or occasionally alternate, frequently with groups of smaller leaves in axils, narrowed somewhat at base, more or less densely short-hispid above, densely so below, obtuse or acute, 1-nerved.
Calyx (4.75)6.5–8 mm. long, 10-ribbed, 5-lobed with anterior lobe frequently much reduced, sparsely to densely hispid-hairy with hairs spreading or forwardly directed; lobes 1.25–2 mm. long, linear-lanceolate to linear, spreading after flowering.
Inflorescence with flowers crowded at apex, spike elongating with flowers becoming lax at fruiting, up to 10 cm. long; flowers sessile, nearly opposite.
Annual herb or apparently so, 6–20(35) cm. tall, erect or decumbent, much branched from thick woody base; stems terete, short hispid to hirsute.
Bracts 2.5–5 x 1–1.75 mm., ovate to ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, sparsely hispid.
Bracteoles 1.5–2.5 x 0.2–0.25 mm., linear.
