Characteristics

Leaves 10–40 x 1.5–6 mm., opposite or superior alternate, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, narrowed at base, entire or remotely, minutely dentate, 1-nerved, variously covered with callous scales especially on margin.

Corolla pink or blue, lilac to purple; tube 2.25–2.6 mm. long, glabrous; limb 1.25–1.5 mm. in diam.; lobes c. 0.6–1 mm. long, narrowly obovate.
Inflorescence of long slender spikes, 5–12(16) cm. long, at maturity flowers very lax, opposite to almost opposite.
Bracts 2.5–4.5 x 1.25–2 mm., broadly ovate to ovate-elliptic, concave, minutely toothed or hispid on margins.
Annual herbs, 8–38 cm. tall, erect, slender; stems branched with branches ascending, angular, glabrous.
Calyx (2.5)3–4 mm. long, 5-lobed, 5-nerved, glabrous; lobes 0.5–1.25 mm. long, ovate, acute.
Capsule 1.9–2.25 x 1.8–2.4 mm., subglobular to ellipsoid, somewhat emarginate.
