Characteristics

Leaves ± opposite, 40–70 x 8–12(20) mm. towards base of stem, decreasing in size above, obovate-oblong to linear-elliptic, obtuse at apex, narrowed at base, entire to occasionally dentate with 1-few obscure teeth, hispid-scabrid on both surfaces, less so above, 3-nerved, loosely imbricate.

Corolla pale mauve to dark blue or white; tube 10–11 mm. long, sparsely, minutely glandular-pubescent without, throat pilose; limb 14–18 mm. in diam.; lobes 6–7 mm. wide, subcircular-obovate.
Bracts to about 8x5 mm., broadly ovate to ovate-circular, apex acute, hispid-pilose to scabrid (generally or frequently only on major nerves) ciliate.
Calyx 8–9 mm. long, 5-lobed, 10-ribbed, pilose on ribs; lobes c. 1–1.5 mm. long, broadly lanceolate-ovate, obtuse to broadly acute.
Annual or perennial herbs, erect to 1 m. or more tall; stem usually branched above, rarely simple, leafy, hispid.
